Academic Growth Classes

Academic Growth Classes provide strong mainstream learning through explicit teaching, differentiation and targeted support. Students build key skills, strengthen confidence and continue developing as successful learners.

These classes are supported by expert classroom teachers, the learning support team and whole-school systems that monitor progress and respond to learning needs. Students remain connected to their year group and continue to access appropriate enrichment and HPGE opportunities through the ACE (Adjustment, Challenge and Enrichment) Pathways.

What is an Academic Growth Class?

Academic Growth Classes are Brookvale Public School’s core mainstream classes. They form an important part of ACE Pathways by ensuring that all students access high-quality teaching, appropriate adjustment, meaningful challenge and opportunities for enrichment.

Students in Academic Growth Classes engage in explicit teaching, rich curriculum content and carefully planned learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum. Teachers use ongoing assessment, student work samples, classroom observations and school-based processes to understand what students know, what they are ready to learn next and what support or challenge will help them continue to grow.

Academic Growth Classes are supported by Brookvale Public School’s whole-school learning and wellbeing systems. This includes strong classroom differentiation, learning support processes, targeted teaching, intervention where appropriate and opportunities for students to extend their learning when they are ready for additional challenge.

Students in Academic Growth Classes participate fully in their year group and have access to all whole-school programs, events and opportunities. They may also access appropriate High Potential and Gifted Education, enrichment and ACE Pathways opportunities when these match their strengths, interests and learning needs.

Student learning is reviewed over time. Where students demonstrate readiness for additional challenge and places are available, they may be considered for Academic Enrichment.
