ACE Pathways
Adjustment, Challenge and Enrichment
ACE Pathways is Brookvale Public School’s whole-school approach to providing students with the right level of adjustment, challenge and enrichment.
Through ACE Pathways, students are supported in learning environments that respond to their strengths, needs and readiness for challenge. This approach brings together our Academic Growth Classes, Academic Enrichment Classes, Academic Extension Classes and Opportunity Class to ensure students are supported at their point of need and provided with opportunities to continue growing as learners.
ACE Pathways reflects our belief that every student should experience high-quality teaching, appropriate challenge and meaningful opportunities to succeed.
Why ACE Pathways?
Students learn best when teaching is responsive to their needs. Some students require additional support or adjustment, some are ready for increased challenge and others require significant academic extension.
ACE Pathways helps Brookvale Public School provide a more precise and connected approach to student learning. It allows us to identify what students need, plan learning more deliberately and create opportunities for students to learn alongside peers with similar learning needs, strengths and readiness for challenge.
This approach supports collaboration, confidence and growth, while ensuring all students continue to access high-quality teaching and meaningful learning opportunities.
Our ACE Pathways
ACE Pathways includes four connected class pathways at Brookvale Public School. Each pathway provides students with high-quality teaching, appropriate challenge and access to learning opportunities matched to their strengths, needs and readiness.

Best-fit learning environments
ACE Pathways is designed around the idea of best-fit learning environments. This means students are supported in learning environments that provide the most appropriate balance of adjustment, challenge and enrichment at their current point of need.
Brookvale Public School organises classes in accordance with NSW Department of Education policies. All students enrolled at Brookvale Public School have access to high-quality teaching, support and opportunities for challenge appropriate to their learning needs.
Class placement is determined through whole-school class formation processes that consider a range of educational, social and wellbeing factors. Academic Growth Classes and Academic Enrichment opportunities are part of Brookvale Public School’s approach to meeting the diverse learning needs of students and are not considered separate enrolment streams.
Placement is about ensuring each student has access to the teaching, support, challenge and learning experiences that will help them continue to grow.
Each year, Brookvale Public School will review student needs, cohort profiles, enrolment numbers and school organisation to determine the most appropriate mix of Academic Extension, Academic Enrichment and Academic Growth Classes. This ensures ACE Pathways remains responsive to the learning and adjustment needs of each cohort.
Responsive pathways
ACE Pathways is responsive to student growth over time. Student learning is monitored through ongoing assessment, teacher judgement, classroom observations, work samples and school-based processes.
As students develop, their learning needs may change. Where appropriate, and where places are available, students may be considered for different ACE Pathways placements that better match their readiness for challenge and current point of need.
This ensures student placement is not fixed, but remains connected to each student’s growth, progress and learning needs.

Academic Extension Classes are for students who demonstrate high potential and need significant academic challenge. Students work with advanced curriculum content, complex ideas and targeted extension across learning areas, while remaining fully connected to the life of Brookvale Public School.
Academic Enrichment Classes
Academic Enrichment Classes are for students who show strong academic potential and are ready for extra challenge. Students engage with rich learning experiences that build confidence, curiosity and deeper thinking across the curriculum.

Opportunity Class
The Brookvale Public School Opportunity Class is a Stage 3 learning environment for high potential and gifted students. Students engage in challenging learning experiences with peers who are ready for increased academic extension. Placement is managed by the NSW Department of Education’s Selective Education Team.
