Band

There are many benefits from being part of a school band. As a band member, students learn cooperation, commitment and team work. Through performing, they develop their self-esteem and confidence.

Students are invited to join the band program during term 3 of Year 2. After attending a band performance morning, they will have a blow test to see which instrument best suits them in terms of the shape of their mouth and the size of the instrument. Students will then commence private tuition at the beginning of term 4.

Joining the School Band program involves considerable commitment. Students are required to attend two band rehearsals as well as a ½ hour individual tutorial each week. In addition to this it is recommended that band members practice their instruments 4 times a week.

At Brookvale Public School we currently have two bands:

The Junior Band is for beginning band members. Rehearsal times are:

  • Tuesday 1:25pm – 2:25pm and Wednesday 8:00am - 9:00am.

The Senior Band is for more experienced band members. Rehearsal times are:

  • Tuesday 1:25pm – 2:25pm and Thursday 8:00am - 9:00am.

Students are able to hire instruments from the school or may prefer to purchase their own. Band fees are $200 per term and $20 instrument hire. Also, students need to purchase a copy of the Essential Elements Book 1 (2000) for their instrument.

As a member of the band program, students will have several performance opportunities in the form of workshops with High School Bands, participating in various musical festivals and performing at school assemblies and special occasions.
