Reading allows us to walk in someone else's shoes and is a powerful tool for understanding someone else's point of view. At Brookvale, students visit the Library once a week with their class and during this time all students share printed, visual or audio texts. Students build vocabulary, have discussions and communicate their ideas and opinions. Our Library is stocked with a wide selection of books and resources for students to borrow and we encourage our students to read as many books as possible. At Brookvale, we believe it is important to foster a love of reading as there is a strong correlation between reading (and being read to) from a young age and academic achievement. Our students enjoy participating in the Premier's Reading Challenge every year.
Our Teacher Librarian Annette Murphy-Haste always welcomes parents and members of the community to the library either to volunteer re-shelving and covering books, or just to drop by for afternoon tea on Thursday afternoons.
